PAIRING SOLUTION

I recently bought the BDV-IS1000 and had the same pairing problem as everyone else. I had read the boards and comments regarding possible solutions. While I cannot speak for each and every BDV-IS1000 that is out there and I am sure that there is certain equipment that is indeed defective, I would like to bet that my solution will probably solve 99% of the paring problems. The problem lies in the fact that the instruction manual is not very good at explaining the procedure for pairing.
While some speakers will pair with the receiver right out of the box; just plug and play, sometimes it is not the case. And the instructions fail to omit one key element vital to the pairing procedure.
After being unable to pair the speakers, I was ready to return my set as well. But then I tried something. I also purchased the AIR-SA10, the accessory wireless S-Air speaker system. I tried seeing if the receiver would pair with the S-Air speaker system and it did right out of the box. I was wondering why my receiver would pair with the speaker system and not the rear speakers. So I swapped out the "good" S-Air radio transmitter with what I thought was a "faulty" radio transmitter in my rear speaker amplifier and still the speakers would not pair. So obviously everything was working correctly as evidenced in the fact that the receiver was able to pair with the other unit and it was not the radio transmitter.
My experience with pairing a Bluetooth hands free and a cell phone reminded me that both units have to be looking for one another. In the case of the BDV-IS1000, the same thing needs to be done as well. The instructions tell you to go to system settings on the receiver and hit the set pairing button to have the receiver search for the speakers. The receiver will search for the speakers for 5 minutes or so, and alas no speakers to be found / paired.
Here is the key!
Before you hit the pair speakers function on the blu-ray receiver, on the back of the amplifier unit where it says S-AIR ID and there is a switch for letters A,B, and C, there is a small little hole which is labeled "Paring". Take a pin or some other small sharp object and push the button. A light should start blinking notifying you that it is searching for the receiver. At which point, hit the searching button the receiver and the units should pair instantaneously. However, it might take one or two attempts for it to work.
Anyways, I have a great sounding system now and am totally happy. I hope this solution helps and you are also able to enjoy your speaker system.

An Honest Review

First, let me say that I have purposely waited about 4 months before writing a review. I want to give this review a fair report. Having said that, I want to tell you that I am VERY satisfied with this product. It's simple, all-in-one, and high quality performance make this a wonderful treat in my home. Using this product to watch movies and satellite tv, I have found this system to be powerful. Yes, powerful. I rarely have to turn the volume past the half-way point and if I do there is NO distortion. I love the fact that it is inconspicuous yet functional and gets the job done. For example, as I write this review, my 2 year old son is watching Wall-E on it in the background. It sounds awesome, revealing clarity and color in the movie's soundtrack.
There may be a temporary drawback. Yes, the wireless speakers did not work for me either. Sony did send out the special wire(Sony part #: EZW-EC10) that gets it running properly and is not that big of a deal. Interestingly, I had it plugged in for about 2 months, then decided to unplug the wire to see what would happen.....and it began working without the wire!!! So, right now, the back speakers work great without the
wire. If you are sold on the product itself, but wary about getting it and not having the back speakers working properly, I suggest trying to get the wire before your unit comes in (just to be safe). I know that his must sound like a hastle, but I would do it because I love the quality, feel, and look of this unit. How many other units out there have this quality for its size? Probably not many. And please do not say Bose...Please, I've done my research and have purposely chosen this product over the Bose line - and darn sure glad I did.
In the end, I am satisfied with this product because of its picture quality, sound quality, and minimalist design. Having had it for four months, the ONLY problem that you MAY come across is having to get the special wire I have mentioned. Please don't let this be a deal breaker. Having known what I know now, I would surely buy this product again. After all the research I did, I would still pick this product again and again.
Finally, and most importantly, I am able to sit on my couch knowing I have a wonderful system that did not cost thousands of dollars. I'm sure if your an audiophile, than you will be willing or wanting to spend thousands. And will no doubt have a system that is technically better. But for the rest of us, you will no doubt feel, see, and hear a system that is worth the price. I cannot stress enough the quality of such a minimally designed unit.
Okay, I'm going back now to watch Wall-E with my son. Please feel free to comment or ask questions. I would love to help you if needed! Best luck finding what you want :) |

| This has been a great product, it has everything we need all in one unit, it sounds wonderful for such a small unit. The Blueray discs come up much faster then our friends and family's units. Average time for a disc to come up is 15-30 seconds. My friends wait up to 2 min for their unit that is not a sony. |

I purchased the Sony BDV-IS1000 after researching a lot of Blu-Ray HTIB systems from all the manufacturers. I was initially skeptical about the sound quality from such small speakers and concerned about the reliability of wireless rear speakers. I am glad to say that after purchasing this system and setting it up (in less than 30 minutes) that not only does the S-Air system work flawlessly, but the sound is incredible. Friends are amazed at the sound quality after they find my speakers. I have the system in a solid wood entertainment center with an open front shelf for the Sony. I have had absolutely no problems with the S-air system connecting to the receiver in the rear of my living room (approx. 15 feet). The video quality from the blu-ray player is amazing as well.
I have also connected this system to my wireless network using the Linksys wireless gaming system adapter and have had no problems downloading the BD Live update.
I highly recommend this sytem. |
Great product - S-Air was a bit finiky, but only because I went cheap on ONE HDMI cable

I've had the Sony BDVIS1000 for a few weeks now-- Before purchasing I read the reviews on this system and was a bit hesitant about purchasing based on the S-air connectivity problems, but really wanted the small footprint & sound from this extra small HTIB system. I'm thrilled I did, because I couldn't be more pleased with the look, functionality and sound produced by such a small system. DVDs look great, the on screen display is easy to use, and setup is..well, unfortunately a bit tricky... here was my experience and solution to getting S-air to work:
Like several folks here, I had difficulties pairing the s-air system with the receiver right out of the box. While waiting for my HDMI cables from Amazon to arrive, I setup the system using composite video cables and RCAs. In this setup I didn't have a much of a problem pairing, although finding instructions in the book on the difference between hitting the pair button once vs holding it down couldn't be found anywhere. To this day I'm still not sure what sequence to use to pair (holding down vs single press).
Here's what I did that caused the pairing problem: I purchased 3 - 1.3b UNSHIELDED HDMI cables from Amazon for super cheap. I thought "hey, everyone said HDMI cables are all the same so let's try the cheap-os" Well, they are not all the same. After setting up the system with 3 HDMI cables (2 running a TiVO HD and an XBOX 360 and one main cable for the 46" Samsung), the rear speakers sat dormant with only a flashing green power light on the front of the s-air module. No matter WHAT I did wouldn't pair AT ALL. I even unplugged my 2.4GHz phones and it didn't make a difference.
Then I read a fellow amazon customer's article referencing HDMI shielded cables, so I thought I'd give it a try -- I picked up one AR HDMI 7" double shielded cable, pluged it in as the OUTPUT cable from the receiver to the TV, and VOILA. Problem solved. No more interference with the wireless adapter on the back of the system and the system now sounds great. The other two HDMI cables running out of the two input connections are fine as non-shielded cables, but the cable that runs just adjacent to the wireless needs to be sheilded. SO you can save a few dollars by buying cheaper HDMI cables for the inputs, but will need to shell out a few extra $ for the one cable. It's not much of an added cost if purchased online, but to get the rear chanels to work was beyond annoying for me after setting it up.
One note for Sony: it would have been nice to have seen that written somewhere in the literature. "Please use sheilded cables or the rear channels won't work"
I hope the helps some of you out! BTW, the system is fantastic - it has a small footprint, produces great sound and I've enjoyed several movies, TiVO shows, and XBOX games with it and it's been fabulous (even without the rears on...lol) Now that the whole system is going, I can't wait for the weekend for some football :) |
