I've been using this for about 1 month, I haven't experienced any problems. It functions perfectly! It makes you aware of the different bands and the functionality of it locking out stores you pass every day is also a wonderful function! It makes you aware of red light cams, etc. So far, I think its well worth the extra money!

I purchased this radar detector because I got a ticket for 6 dollars. I read reviews on all the major radar detectors. After the reviews I found that this radar detector rated higher than any other out there. Once it arrived at my home I used it for my daily commute back and forth to work, and I must say it works excellent, long before I even see a cop the escort warns you of the their presence therefor giving you plenty of time to slow down. Don't be a fool go out and get this radar detector.I know it's expensive and I know times are rough right now because of the economy and everything but believe me the Escort Passport 9500ix pays for it's self from the money you'll save from speeding tickets. I think I've said enough Im sure you'll choose wisely.

The Escort radar detector works exactly as described and detects almost all signals with adequate distance to ensure no tickets. The automatic storage of duplicate signals from stores, extraneous sources is a bonus to eliminate non-critical signals. The web-based updates and service are also top notch. Having replaced other brand radar detector, will never buy another unless it is an Escort. Well worth the money for the capabilities and peace of mind.

This detector excels beyond its competition because of GPS ability. It locks-out false alarms the third encounter if auto enabled, or you may lock-out the source manually, and its GPS receiver remembers the location and silences the detector. It lets you know of the lockout by a rotating GPS icon on the front display.

You may also purchase an update subscription from Escort, which keeps the internal database updated with known red light and speed camera/trap locations. I bought one and the update process is painless, and quick.

There may be other detectors on the market that slightly beat the 9500ix in sensitivity, but if used in highway mode (preferred by me), it is no slouch. The detector may also be used in auto mode, which reduces sensitivity according to vehicle speed, which reduces false alarms.

This detector is a five-star item, and I'd recommend it to anyone. The GPS receiver in this detector is an absolutely brilliant application of technology.

It's a toy not a detector
So many bells and wistles, I have used a V1 for years, read the reviews and decided to "upgrade" to a passport with gps. First let me say I didn't realize radartest was basically provides a place for radar detector companies to pay for good review, so don't trust them. I found out the hard way.

I put my new 9500ix in my car an assumed it was as good, well I commute on in an area of lot's of camera speed traps, it caught only a few. It was very quiet though, actually to quiet, I got popped in an area where I can only assume it was hiding the cop thinking it was something else.

I asked him if he was instant on, he said no. So I went back a few day's later to a known speed trap and sure enough the V1 picked it up nearly a mile before my new detector. This was an older one also. So Ebay'ed it away and sent the v1 in for an upgrade. Fore something like 0 bucks I got a band new detector, new case, new charger, new everything. I have had that V1 for 8 or 10 years, see passport do that, last I checked they give you a 50-80 dollar rebate, what a JOKE!!!

Tickets are serious, get a serious detector get a V1!
